Roadmap Update: Laying the Foundations for DAOhaus v3

At ETHDenver, we unveiled a simple, modular, and customizable future for DAOhaus v3. Since then, we have been focusing our product roadmap towards realizing our vision - a future where any human community can achieve its collective purpose while reinforcing the full sovereignty of its individual members.

In this article, we share some updates on our v3 Roadmap and near-term milestones.

The Future of DAOhaus is Composable

Today, DAOhaus is home to over 2,000 Moloch DAOs, and we believe this is only the beginning of the DAO adoption curve. We anticipate a Cambrian explosion of new DAOs, each with its own unique purpose, background, and context. The increase in the diversity of communities forming DAOs has already begun, leading to an expansion of the DAO operations problem space. Unsurprisingly, a burgeoning ecosystem of horizontal DAO tools has emerged to meet these needs.

At DAOhaus, giving our communities the best chance to achieve their shared purpose means giving them access to that growing selection of DAO tools. This is why we are re-architecting DAOhaus as composable and decentralized infrastructure that enables any developer to integrate their applications into the DAOhaus platform, ecosystem, and community. Our focus is on supplying those developers with the core infrastructure and primitives they need to solve the DAO problems they are best equipped to solve. Explicitly supporting composability is the best way for us to support the next generation of DAOs and communities.

One thing that will not change is the importance of a cohesive user experience, especially for the type of community-first DAOs that thrive on DAOhaus. User experience remains a top priority for us even as we modularize to support greater flexibility.

Decentralization also remains a top priority: everything we do is to support communities with distributed power structures. We do not take shortcuts on decentralization by relying on admin controls.

The Trilemma of Flexibility vs Usability vs Decentralization
The Trilemma of Flexibility vs Usability vs Decentralization

These priorities create a trilemma of Flexibility vs. Usability vs. Decentralization. We don’t pretend that solving the trilemma is easy, but our experience and collective capabilities make us uniquely equipped to do it. And indeed, we have been taking early steps towards navigating this trilemma even in DAOhaus v2. For instance, we have integrated Gnosis Safe and Ceramic to leverage their best-in-class treasury and decentralized identity management, while keeping the core user experience seamless. DAOhaus v3 builds on our learnings from v2 and  pushes towards greater decentralization and collaboration with community developers.

Sustainable Composability: Markets

After we have launched this composable infrastructure, we will be exploring new marketplace, payment, and curation primitives, so that value can flow back to community developers building on DAOhaus. The curation mechanisms will help uphold the quality of community-built applications and the payment primitives will provide community developers sustainable revenue streams. Our vision for these primitives is to enable every developer to sustainably build Boosts, Dapps and other interfaces together with us to create a coherent, user-friendly, and comprehensive Haus for DAOs.

How We’re Building It

Every step of our development process – from ideation to implementation – mirrors our composable architecture. Every feature and interface in the DAOhaus v3 platform is now an interoperable module. As seen in the chart below, many of these modules will eventually be built and managed by community developers.

Even further, each of these modules and apps are built on the DAOhaus v3 Component Library and the DAOhaus v3 SDK, which we will be making available to the community. These tools enable current and future developers to build more effectively on the DAOhaus stack. We are dogfooding them with newly onboarded contributors and collecting feedback. And we have been researching different ways to decentralize our tech stack, exploring various options in decentralized storage.

What’s Next

With the above objectives in mind, we are working towards the following milestones in Q2 of 2022.

  1. Launch DAOhaus Component Library and SDK (Alpha)
  2. Launch DAOhaus v3 Hub, Core and Summoning Apps (Alpha)
  3. Commence Alpha testing with users
  4. Ensure that DAOhaus v2 continues to meet our users’ needs
  5. Start a Developer Relations workstream

Our main focus over the next 3 months is delivering and testing an Alpha version of DAOhaus v3, including the Component Library and SDK. This lays the foundation for the Beta launch of DAOhaus v3 later this year.

Meanwhile, we remain committed to ensuring that the existing DAOhaus v2 platform continues to serve all the DAOs and individuals that are using it today. This means fixing bugs as they arise, and partnering with community developers on new boosts where valuable.

Lastly, to prepare for DAOhaus’ composable future, we will be kickstarting a Developer Relations workstream to onboard community developers into our ecosystem.

Get Involved

Walking the walk of openness and composability, we invite our community to be more involved in our journey towards DAOhaus v3

  • We have started using this public Github mono repository to track our progress. If you want to stay updated or contribute to building v3, do check out the repository!
  • We have started a Research and Testing circle to focus on exploring new ideas and testing concepts with community members. If you want to help us test the Alpha product, say gm in our Discord!
  • Alternating every Friday, DAOhaus has CampFire sessions on Discord where we showcase our recent work to the community and encourage feedback. If you are curious what we have completed or just want to hang out, join us at the next CampFire session!

Lastly, if anything mentioned in this article sounds interesting, please feel free to say gm in our Discord - we’d love to get you involved!
